Why "Cast Offs"?

It brings two of my favorite pastimes together, sailing and knitting.

CAST OFF
1 : To unfasten or untie a boat or a line. To let go; set loose: cast off a boat
2 : To remove (a stitch) from a knitting needle in such a way as to prevent unraveling: cast off the stitches

Fitting? Yes, indeed!
