All fulled up and no place to go

I've been knitting some oven mitts but waited until I had three of them completed so I could felt (full) them all at once. I thought that way I could save some water & energy, because I love Mother Nature and try to do my part when I can.

Here they are, lined up and ready to go.

I've used this pattern before and the mitts turn out the perfect size and thickness. I love this green one! It fits my hand perfectly and I use it all the time.

I put the mitts in the washer and set it for 15 minutes. When I pulled them each out they were still the same size as they started, so I plunged each one into icy water, then put them back in the washer for another 15. This time they came out completely felted. Here's a shot just out of the washer, still soggy & wet.

Lookin' good! Lemme check the size.

A teensy bit smaller, but they feel so thick & sturdy!

Hmmm... there might be a problem.

Yes, definitely a problem.

My first thought was that I could give them to somebody with children, but... most responsible adults don't let their children near the oven so why would a kid need oven mitts? ? ?

If I had done them one at a time and not tried to be so responsible I would have only ruined one and would have had two usable oven mitts. Darn it anyway! That'll teach me to conserve!
