Telephone harassment

Only two of the phones in my house have caller ID screens on them - one's in the kitchen and the other is upstairs in my bedroom. The kitchen one is missing (it's cordless), presumably hiding in the depths of the disaster area that is my son's bedroom. So all day I've been unable to screen my calls and have answered every single one.

So far I've talked to a soft-spoken woman named Christine who offered to answer any questions I have about the bible (I quietly hung up on her), a woman from the NRA who told (told, not asked) me to listen to a brief recording from Wayne LaPierre and then stay on the line so she could get my response (I hung up after "Hi, this is Wayne..."), and a woman from a whackjob pro-choice organization who I interrupted immediately by muttering "Oh no. Nonononono." then hung up.

Now I know I am PMSing, but dang these phone calls are annoying! Is the Do Not Call Registry broken today? WTF?

Ok, I just got another call; a woman from India trying to convince me to add crap on to my credit card account. I let her give her spiel then said (without taking a breath) "I really don't need anything added to my card at this time but thank you for the information Have a nice day Goodbye." and hung up. Man, I have got to find that phone!

My favorite thing to do is 1) unplug the landline from the wall, and 2) act interested, ask them to hold on - and set the phone down for 20 minutes. I have heard many a solicitor clearing their throats while they wait for my 'return' to the phone.

I detest paying for a service for my household that is abused by people who make a living out of dialing that private, protected by do-not-disturb numbers.
