Yacht racing

We had our first race of the season on Saturday. Each boat has a performance rating and we use a staggered start based on those ratings. This means that if each boat performs equally we will all cross the finish line at the same time. Of course there are a lot of variables, such as wind shifts or the Jet Express cutting through the fleet.

We had good wind and bright sunshine. It was a gorgeous day.

(Did you take your Dramamine?)

Dave dubbed us 'Team Wounded' as all three of us onboard had injuries; me with my shoulder, Dave with his recent surgery, and our friend John with a back injury. Our tacks were slow and we tired quickly so we felt that our performance was really lacking. Still, we finished in the middle of the fleet.

But our poor friend Tim was dismasted after a jibe at the buoy. Luckily no one was injured.

When it's good it's good, but when it's bad it's expensive. Ouch!

"Got wire cutters?"
