Gray day

It was a nice drive to the yarn shop yesterday. The sun was out, the sky was blue, and the leaves are changing. I remembered to take my camera along on the drive, but neglected to wash my windshield beforehand, so most of the shots are dotted with squished bug goo. Here's the best shot of the bunch...

I got to the shop and told the lady I was making my tote & ran out of yarn. She didn't know how that could be since she said she sold me more than enough to complete it. I pulled it out of the bag and she checked my gauge. It was right on. Then she noticed I had knit it with a double strand. I told her that the pattern said to do this and that I asked the felting instructor about it and she told me to knit it with a double strand. Wrong. Not with this yarn. So here's how I spent my afternoon...

Waaah! The whole thing had to go. That was 54 rows of 96 stitches each, and I don't even want to multiply that out! So the tote is back to 5 rows that I knit last night while watching tv. So much for getting it done early.

On a happier note, two skeins of a gorgeous berry-colored mohair jumped into my arms and begged me to take it home and make it into a stole. I can't wait to wrap it around some needles! This is now my motivation to get the tote done.

It's a dark and dreary, wet day today; perfect for staying indoors and doing the laundry, making apple crisp, and knitting. So that's what I'm gonna do!
