Mysterious notes from the past

A few years ago I bought several old knitting magazines at a book sale and today I was flipping through them to see if I should keep them or let them go. One in particular, a McCall's Needlework & Crafts from Fall-Winter 1973-74, held something that has me intrigued. In it was a piece of stationary from the Sun City Center Inn which appears to have a speech jotted on it. It was written by a man and I'm wondering how it came to be in this Needlework magazine. Is it from 1974? Who was this person? Who was he giving the speech to? I have so many questions. I've scanned this paper so you can see what it looks like, and have transcribed it below.

"Begin
A friend once said people are divided into two groups – those who floss and those who don’t floss. Notwithstanding the lack of scientific basis for the claim – (can’t make out word), regular flossing says something about a person, and it’s not only about dental hygiene. It’s more likely a symptom of perfectionism and everyone knows this is not a loveable trait.

End
I stumble into the lackluster bathroom. Pee then perform my ritual of nasal spray an inhalants, wash my face and brush away the taste of scotch. I’m tired. The person in the mirror is an old man. Automatically I reach for the floss. Then I think, why bother? Missing one night won’t hurt. I toss the (floss) back in my kit, and shut off the light. E is asleep, the TV making strange patterns & light. I get into the bed, crunch a place in the pillow and settle in to fall asleep. Then I think about not flossing and realize it was a mistake. I can’t afford to give up the struggle of what’s important to me. I get up, go back to the bathroom and floss. Someone else might thing I’m foolish. But I do it because I’m supposed to."

Interesting, eh?
