Grow Your Own Dinosaurs!

We found this package of Triops when we were cleaning Nelson's bedroom. Neither one of us could remember how long ago I bought it, but we figure it had been up there for at least 5 years. And rather than throw it away, I thought I'd give it a try and see what sort of funky little Sea-Monkeys it produced.

Imagine my surprise when one hatched and it actually looked like what's shown on the package!

This guy is about 10 days old. See his beady little eyes?

And here is his underbelly. I like to think of that white spot on his mouth as two beaver teeth. *heh*

His eating technique is fun to watch. He grabs his food and holds onto it while he eats. Yesterday I gave him a little chunk of carrot and he went crazy, swimming in vertical circles. You can even feed them tiny bits of raw fish, shrimp, and even brine shrimp which, incidentally, are Sea-Monkeys!

Oh, one other thing. Yesterday Nelson asked me what I named it but I hadn't yet, so off the top of my head I said "Twinkletoes". Twinkletoes Triops. *heh-heh* Must be the allergy meds.
