Sailors and plumbers and deer, oh my!

Dave and I spent the weekend at the yacht club for our annual Sailor's Rendezvous. We had a great time. It's always nice to party with our friends, and we were all especially jovial this year, Dave and I having just got back from our sailing vacation, and our friends getting ready to go in a couple weeks. It was fun to tell them all about our trip, suggest places for them to go, and tell them about the 'treasures' we hid along the way for them to find. We shared stories, ate, drank, shopped, and danced the night away. Too bad we were all hurting on Monday. It sucks to get old.

Before we left on Friday afternoon I took a photo of the AeroGarden lettuce...

...and by Monday it looked like this:

Wow! I can't believe how fast it's growing!

I had a plumber come in to fix a leaky sink yesterday. He's an older guy with a slight southern accent and he's been here several times before so he knows me a little. When he walked into the kitchen and saw the lettuce growing he said "So, you growing some marijuana?" then immediately caught himself and began apologizing. I was shocked he said it, but thought it was funny so I laughed while he continued to apologize. Awkward moment for him.

There's been a big orange and white cat in my yard nearly every day for the past few weeks and I thought it belonged to my neighbor. I see it walking around, then it sits underneath one of the spruce trees in the back yard and suns and bathes itself. It's here for about an hour every day and it's not bothered if I tap on the window and talk to it, but if I open the sliding glass door it will run toward me and dive under the deck to hide.

Yesterday Dave came home early and told me that the orange and white cat was up at the end of the road, next to the highway, and I had to let my neighbor know. I called her immediately only to learn that it wasn't her cat after all, her cat is an orangy-beige with no white on him. Once we got the cat thing straightened out our conversation turned to larger animals, namely these guys.

It's that time of year and the deer are coming up and eating all of our shrubs. I told her I had just been to the store and bought a big bag of carrots and was going to toss a few out by the bushes so hopefully the deer would eat those instead. She said she had just bought food for them too, and although we hate to get in the habit of feeding them, we also don't want to be replacing our landscaping again. So I broke up about 6 carrots and tossed them out the door last night. They are still laying there. Oh well. At least the rabbits will be happy.
