100 Things About Me

1. I’ve tried several times throughout my life to journal or keep a diary, but have never been able to stick with it.

2. I keep a travel journal and take with me on special trips.

3. I am not religious and think that being a good person is more important.

4. I have been a vegetarian for 14 years.

5. My favorite food is broccoli.

6. I eat seafood; a medium-rare tuna steak (with wasabi on the side) is my favorite.

7. I believe that the fast food industry is responsible for devastating amounts of obesity, illness, pollution, and cruelty to animals, and should be stopped.

8. I believe that the most important thing you can have in your life is good health, for what good is everything else if you’re not well enough to enjoy it.

9. I’ve seen every single episode of Survivor.

10. I wish I could have been on Survivor I.

11. I would love to live in a hut on the beach in the Caribbean.

12. I go barefoot whenever I can.

13. I wash my feet in the tub every night before going to bed.

14. I visit humane societies just to pet the cats.

15. Every pet I’ve adopted has come from a humane society.

16. I refuse to go into a store that sells cats and dogs for profit.

17. I have 2 cats and if they got along better I would adopt another one.

18. I refer to my cats as “the kids”.

19. I donate regularly to local humane societies, the ASPCA, and the Humane Society of the United States.

20. I have knitted a dozen small blankets and donated them to a cat rescue center.

21. One year I sewed and sent 25 catnip goldfish to a local humane society so the cats could have a Merry Christmas, too.

22. I am good with computers and like to solve other people’s computer problems.

23. I have been called a “Computer Guru” on several occasions.

24. I’ve been listening to Howard Stern for over 13 years.

25. When he gets too crude, I turn the radio off.

26. I have naturally curly hair.

27. It only takes me 5 minutes each morning to dry & style my hair. Today I did it in 4.

28. I love black licorice and have a hidden stash in my desk drawer.

29. I dislike red licorice.

30. Smarties are my favorite candy of all time.

31. My favorite candy used to be Jujubees, but I once broke a molar by chewing them, so I don’t eat them anymore.

32. I cannot eat Jujubees, or any other candy, without chewing them.

33. This is how I met my husband: My 4 year old son and I had recently moved into a new condo. One day we went down to play in the outdoor pool. This guy, who was grilling on his balcony, said “hi” and then came down to talk to me. During the conversation he reached out and pushed my son into the pool and I had to jump in and rescue him. He thought my son could swim. I thought he was an ass.

34. After that, every day when I came home from work he was waiting for me at my door.

35. I guess I have a thing for stalkers.

36. Iced cinnamon latte – mmm!

37. I have wanted a tattoo for 26 years but can’t decide on something that I could live with for the rest of my life.

38. Pro-life bumper stickers really piss me off.

39. When it comes to ice cream, I can take it or leave it. Mostly I leave it.

40. I have never eaten a Krispy Kreme donut and plan to keep it that way.

41. I love watching thunderstorms come across the lake/ocean.

42. I survived a tornado while on our sailboat, docked at the marina.

43. It was the scariest storm I’ve ever experienced.

44. I like the sense of rebirth that comes each spring.

45. Summer is, by far, my favorite season.

46. Fall is when things die and my allergies bloom.

47. I hate winter.

48. I hate cold weather. (“Cold” being defined as anything below 65°F)

49. I hate snow and it’s relatives sleet, slush, and ice.

50. I was born in the winter.

51. When I’m busy I sometimes forget to eat.

52. I appreciate a good bumper sticker, button, coffee mug, or refrigerator magnet and have laughed out loud till I cried over such things in Spencer’s Gifts.

53. When I rent movies, they are almost always comedies.

54. My favorite commercial of all time is the Staples one where the Dad is gleefully riding the shopping cart through the store tossing in school supplies while the two kids follow sullenly behind, and all the while they’re playing the song “It’s the most wonderful time of the year…”

55. I find it endearing when my cats snore, but annoying when my husband does it.

56. I think John Kerry would have made a really good president.

57. I think Jack Kevorkian is a good man whose vision is ahead of his time.

58. I think OJ and Michael Jackson are both guilty as hell.

59. I think pornography is the reason women are treated as second-class citizens.

60. The most expensive shoes I have ever owned are black Stewart Weitzman pumps that I bought to wear to a ball.

61. They cost $160.

62. I wore them once, for about 4 hours.

63. They kill my feet and I hope I never have to wear them again.

64. My second most expensive shoes are $80 Born clogs that I wear all the time.

65. They are 4 years old.

66. I don’t like shopping for shoes.

67. I think Calvin and Hobbes and Get Fuzzy are the best cartoons ever written.

68. I love having my teeth cleaned and will starve myself for the rest of the day just to keep that clean feeling.

69. The most I’ve ever weighed was 139 pounds, when I was 9 months and 10 days pregnant with my youngest.

70. Both my boys were overdue, by 14 days and by 10 days.

71. I loved being pregnant. Really loved it.

73. I drink tea every day. Doing this is supposed to help you live longer.

74. I have an entire kitchen cupboard dedicated to teas.

75. All 52 of my spice jars are organized in alphabetical order on a shelf that my husband made.

76. Not including the Lawry’s Seasoned Salt, which the men of the house insist on. This has been banished to the top shelf of the cupboard in an effort to keep it from contaminating the “good spices”.

77. I don’t think that mammals should drink the milk of other mammals.

78. I have tried to give up dairy products but found it too difficult.

79. I love to read and listen to audio books and keep an ongoing log of all the books I’ve finished. I don’t know why I think this information will ever come in handy.

80. Chipotle vegetarian burritos!!! Yummy!

81. I plan to take up golf when I am older. I don’t want to learn to play now or I will have nothing to look forward to.

82. I hate doing laundry and think “disposable clothes” would be a really good invention.

83. I don’t like stretch jeans.

84. I am a list maker but can’t recall ever making one that went up to 100.

85. I am proud to be a hockey mom.

86. I never liked ketchup until I discovered Canadian Heinz Ketchup. It's delicious!

87. I like all kinds of music except country and rap.

88. I always wear my seatbelt.

89. When I was 25 and was driving to work early one the morning, I hit a patch of ice on the road and lost control of my car. When it went off the road, it rolled onto the passenger side, roof, then came to rest on the driver's side. My son was in the car and neither one of us was injured. I remember skidding all over the road and climbing out of the car afterwards, but to this day I have no memory of the car flipping over.

90. I look forward to getting the mail every day.

91. One of my son’s friends calls me every so often just to say hi. This makes me feel like I’ve done a good job as a parent.

92. I believe in Mother Nature.

93. And karma.

94. I volunteer. A lot.

95. I recycle.

96. I am dependable.

97. I can’t stand cigar or cigarette smoke.

98. My first computer had two 5 ¼ inch floppy drives and no hard drive. It was a 286.

99. I used to go on bulletin boards before the internet existed.

100. I’ve come a long way, baby!
