Spinning the sky

I finished the yarn I've been working on. I used Potluck Roving in the Night Sky colorway from The Village Spinning and Weaving. It's a wool/mohair blend that was a little scratchy at first, but softened up quite a bit after washing.

The color is extremely difficult to photograph and it either comes out too light or bright. This shot is fairly accurate. Deep midnight blue with tiny flecks of golden yellow. (Stars in the night sky?)

I wound up with 256 yards of worsted weight yarn and still have a bunch of singles left on one spool. I bought a postal scale to help me divide the roving with better accuracy, but this is the most I've ever had left on one bobbin after plying. Go figure.

The windchill is 17* today so I'm not going outdoors! (There isn't any sunshine anyway.) This is the best picture I can get under the circumstances.

Handspun with Cuties, butternut squash, and Royal Riviera pears.
Tasty!
